Hello and Welcome! My name is Daria, but I actually prefer to go by Danka.

As a certified canine behaviorist, cynologist, veterinarian, and avid pet lover, I'm excited to share my story with you. I've founded a unique haven that's home to over 250 rescued animals, including dogs, foxes, and bulls.

It's great to meet you, and I can't wait to tell you all about my journey!

Our Story

I'm the proud author of Tailed Stories and also a guardian of over 250 rescued animals. These include dogs with difficult pasts, furry little creatures saved from the slaughterhouse, and even a huge bull who's part of our big family too (I mean it)!

I am also a strong advocate on social media, promoting the rejection of natural furs and the cessation of cosmetic testing on animals.

Introduction

Childhood

Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of having a shelter for dogs. I wanted not just one dog and not just a puppy, but many dogs, I always wanted to help them. I guess I was born with that idea.

However, I grew up in a poor family and my parents would not let me keep dogs, so my dreams were waiting to happen.

From Photographer To Dog Mom

My journey took an unexpected turn, transitioning from a career in photography to becoming a dog mom. As a university student, I pursued a degree in producing, which led me to spend over six years in the movie industry. However, my path eventually shifted towards photography.

Through my lens, I captured the very essence of animals in need, aiming to capture their hearts and attract potential owners who would provide them with loving homes. Whether it was a dog or a cat searching for a family, I understood the importance of showcasing their unique qualities to catch the attention of their perfect match. This became my mission—to help these precious beings find their forever families.

Interestingly enough, fate played its part, and it wasn't just the animals I found; they found me too. Whether it was in the park, on a porch, at animal forums, or within shelters where I frequently visited to photograph them, our paths intertwined. It was during these encounters that the bond between us grew stronger, ultimately leading to me embracing the role of a devoted dog mom.

How It All Started

It all began when a heartfelt video crossed my path—a puppy with one eye in desperate need of costly treatment at a shelter. Eager to help, I rushed to make a donation, only to find the shelter unable to fulfill the need. In that moment, my husband and I made a life-changing decision. We would personally take the puppy to the vet and provide the care he deserved.

As time went by, our little rescue family grew. Soon, we realized that living in a rental apartment with seven dogs, despite being considerate neighbors, was becoming impractical. Determined to give our furry companions the best life possible, my husband and I took a leap of faith. We secured loans and embarked on a search for the perfect place—a country house that would cater to our canine needs.

While the new location was distant from the bustling city of Moscow, it offered ample land and ample space for all our beloved animals. With excitement and anticipation, we embraced this fresh chapter, knowing that our furry friends would now have room to roam and flourish.

Ever-growing Family

Since then, we've had an increase in the number of dogs in the family. Most of them are old and handicapped. We build houses for them, we don't go on vacation, and we don't even have days off because the enormous responsibility doesn't allow us to shift the burden of caring for the dogs to someone else. Yet, we don't perceive it as a burden.- It's a joy for us.

Who Are We Saving

We decided to focus on those whom no one takes - the old or disabled. We feel very sorry for them. While photographing dogs for adoption, I realized that the elderly and disabled are the ones that people have been trying to adopt for years, but most of them die in shelters or at a holding facility without finding a family of their own.

We also take animals with injuries in the past, with a difficult fate, and those who were not given a second chance by their previous owners.

" The hardest thing is to know - If we don't help, they will be euthanized."

Foxes In The House

I once met a girl who rescued two foxes from being turned into fur coats. I knew, of course, that fur coats don't grow on trees, but I didn't know that animals could be officially saved from such a fate. I’ve decided to buy three fox pups."

"And then a raccoon without a paw. But it turned out he had seven brothers and a sister, we had to take them all..." and just like that our house became a sanctuary for these beautiful creatures, where love and protection abound.

I have faith that animals with disabilities also have the right to a happy life, and foxes were not born to be someone's clothes.

Money We Live On

As a retoucher and designer, every single penny I earn goes towards caring for our beloved "herd" – that's what I lovingly call them all. My husband and I firmly believe in shouldering the responsibility of supporting our dogs ourselves.

Of course, there are times when we need to raise funds for unexpected situations, like emergency surgeries or hospital bills. However, we also have to consider the regular monthly expenses for food, supplies, medications – it all adds up, you know. Thankfully, our friends lend a hand too. They organize fundraisers or contribute whatever they can.

Recently, we even started our own ethical cosmetics line called Push Beauty. We are grateful for any donation, but we are not looking for sponsors.
